Low voter turnout happens when people believe that elections are pointless and that government at all levels – local, state and federal – is disconnected from our everyday existence. Art can help us overcome those perspectives through beauty, creativity, education and thought-provoking presentations.
Vote = Voice is a collective, artist-led initiative deploying creative talent to combat the stifling effects of low voter turnout and restore the principle of government by the people and for the people. We believe that art is a tool to inspire, mobilize, educate and unify marginalized communities. We use murals, projections, social engagement projects, printed material, and social media by influential personalities to help create persuasive, effective communication.
Although we promote voting, we are neither a political party nor representative of any particular ideology. We volunteer our time and talents, and we do not seek to profit from our endeavors. We are a group of creative citizens who urgently believe our nation needs a fair voting process, one that represents all people. And we believe the process of working toward this ideal is a positive step that can also be exciting, entertaining, and fun.
We believe that a person’s vote equals their voice, and we want to help all voices be heard – in the 2020 election, and beyond.
